Leadership Program Reflection

IALT: Write about what I learnt during my time with the other leaders and Kiwi Can leaders.

Every two weeks on a Friday, all the leaders of the school come together and have a leadership program with the Kiwi Can Leaders. The whole reason behind this is to help us as leaders fulfil our roles and remember that as leaders of the school we must ensure that it is a fun and safe environment for the other students. Again, we were put into teams in which we had to write down what LEADERSHIP meant to us in a acrostic poem. I was with Kauri, and Kira, both who have the potential to be leaders themselves one day.

Overall, I think our poem was the best out of the others because the words we used , wasn't the same kind of language we would use in our normal lives, and in our writing tests. I think it was just the feeling of being supported and in an environment where no answer is a wrong answer.
That task for me helped me grow with my Teamwork skills, social skills, and become more competitive. It's not the work that made me think we were the best, but the work we did together and the things we achieved.

Then it was time to go and role play a Kiwi Can session, for real. We were told that one day we would be hosting a real Kiwi Can session with one of the classrooms, just to get a feel of what being a true leader is. I was teamed up with Siale, Kenneth, Kira and Kauri, all in which have the power to set a good example and lead a class to see what it really feels like.

A highlight from that time was being able to lead a class, and being able to let my other peers know that I have the ability to lead a class without hesitation. I can't wait for the next program which is in Term 3! Feel free to leave a comment.
Many thanks :)

Fitness Reflection

IALT: Write about what I did and learnt during fitness time.

Fitness was different on Friday, with our buddies lined up together ready for any challenges we were told to walk around the bike track to start off fitness. For me my buddy tried to show off, and go in front using all his energy in that time, he became tired half way around! At time he would stop and sit on the floor panting heavily as if he had just run a marathon! But I didn't mind because as his buddy it was my job to help him keep going and never give up. His enthusiasm and trust in me, helped him become better and fitter at fitness.

The jog for that time wasn't one of my highlights but helping him was. Even though we didn't come in at the place I thought we were going to be, it didn't matter which place you came but having the courage to finish it. I wanted to do more, like Planks, Squats, Shuttle Runs and all the other normal things we would do. But sadly I had to leave for leadership purposes which was one of the things I wanted to do, and not at the same time, because that meant leaving my buddy again.

Something challenging I found was when we had to jog, waiting for Garth, I wasn't used to waiting for people but now I know what is going to happen in the future and what I can work on. Something I can work on next time we have buddy fitness is having the patience to wait for my buddy.

Tuakana Teina Day Refletion

IALT: Write about what I did and learnt while spending time with my buddy Garth.

On Friday it was Tuakana Teina day, from the morning jog to the actual work, I loved it all! As you know my buddy is Garth and to be honest he doesn't want to do his work but do mine! He always want's to go on my Chromebook and have a little type, bit for now I don't think he is ready and I will start to teach him a few tricks, and tips. In Room 2 we worked on a Pamphlet, in which was going to be showcased at our school night market on Wednesday the 5th of July.

I was accompanied by one of my friends Sifa, as he didn't have a buddy. It made things for me a lot easier as I had to leave to go recording and for a leadership program. As for the pamphlet, I didn't quite get the message and ended up doing the wrong thing. I left to go recording and then when I came back Sifa told me I did it wrong but he did the right thing. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have finished it.

He didn't share me the work, but it was amazing with the different colours, texts and pictures.
I was proud to have him as my buddy because it helped me a lot as I wasn't in class for like the past 1 hour. Garth, was on the right track having the ability to work with a buddy and independently. A challenge I found was leaving him with Sifa, I didn't know what would happen but in the end the wait paid off.
