Cross Country / Fitness Reflection

IALT: Write about a new running track that we do for fitness.

This week for fitness the teachers have decided to extend our running lap distance, instead of running around the bike track we have to run around the block. Some of us us call it 'Cross Country' because it's long and it requires us to set a pace where we can keep running the whole lap without stopping. For me the first time I thought it was going to be easy but running around I started to lose my energy faster than I thought.

Running around the 3rd corner I noticed that a stitch was forming on the side of my rib cage, I couldn't describe what I felt but I couldn't breath heavily and couldn't control how fast I was breathing. So I walked the whole way back until I reached the finish line. It wasn't one of the moments where I came first, but I knew what it would take to conquer the track and how long it would take me.

But yesterday I kept myself at a manageable pace and overtook the people in front of me to come first, but I didn't want to brag about it because I didn't want anyone else to feel bad about themselves. Something challenging I found was not speeding up and wasting my energy fast, but next week I hope I can finish faster and go for longer.

Fitness At Home

IALT: Carry on with my fitness at home.

Today after school I started off my first fitness at home programme, where I could carry on doing exercise at home, while alone and with more complex exercise and equipment. At first I was alone, work on a machine where it could help my biceps, triceps, forearms, and shoulders to start really showing. Each block weighed about 5-10 kg, I could be able to life 5 of them, meaning I was lifting 50 kilograms or 25 kilograms, all in which made my shoulders sore as I moved onto the next exercise. I went onto the boxing bag, where I would pretend I was in a real fight, throwing all sorts of different punches, hooks, uppercuts, jabs and right hands.

It was a hard time with my muscles aching , but I still carried on because I knew it was working as the pain was starting to kick in. Another piece of equipment, was one where it was like you were rowing, this worked on my arms and shoulders. It felt like I was actually in a raft rowing, it took me about 250 rows to stop me from doing anymore as my shoulders didn't want to do anymore.

I didn't want to give up, because if I did all the effort I put into working hard will be gone. A challenge I found throughout the workouts was going non stop for 10 minutes, the hardest was the weight lifting section. I think this is the best one because it helps strengthen your arms, and it really does work. I was only for about 5 minutes until I started to sweat, I don't like sweating because I don't smell too good but I was going to go for a shower after fitness anyways.

I am going to carry on with it throughout the holidays and when I move onto college. Fitness can change how I look because all the excess fat will be removed and pure muscle will be showing. It's going to be hard but I know I am going to make it because I have a heart keen for challenges.

Fitness Reflection

IALT: Write about what I did and learnt during fitness time.

Fitness was different on Friday, with our buddies lined up together ready for any challenges we were told to walk around the bike track to start off fitness. For me my buddy tried to show off, and go in front using all his energy in that time, he became tired half way around! At time he would stop and sit on the floor panting heavily as if he had just run a marathon! But I didn't mind because as his buddy it was my job to help him keep going and never give up. His enthusiasm and trust in me, helped him become better and fitter at fitness.

The jog for that time wasn't one of my highlights but helping him was. Even though we didn't come in at the place I thought we were going to be, it didn't matter which place you came but having the courage to finish it. I wanted to do more, like Planks, Squats, Shuttle Runs and all the other normal things we would do. But sadly I had to leave for leadership purposes which was one of the things I wanted to do, and not at the same time, because that meant leaving my buddy again.

Something challenging I found was when we had to jog, waiting for Garth, I wasn't used to waiting for people but now I know what is going to happen in the future and what I can work on. Something I can work on next time we have buddy fitness is having the patience to wait for my buddy.

Fitness Reflection

IALT: Talk about what I did and what I learnt and achieved during fitness.

Today for Fitness it was more tiring than the other days because me Sifa, and Demetrius decided to go for another lap around the bike track to help support the others who were still behind. Jogging after we already had one was beginning to ache in my legs but I pushed my body to keeping going until I reached the finish line. My heart kept pumping and pumping as I kept jogging, I couldn't bother to run because if I did I knew I would've got a cramp, and a cramp really hurts.

Jose was last person behind the whole squad, and I thought he was going to be way in front of us but in the end we ended up catching up to him just about 24 metres behind. I never knew it was going to end in that spectacular result, but then and there I realised something , if I could do 2 laps a day I could become fitter and more used to the track. The first lap I came in 1:15 seconds, so that's why we decided to go for another.

We came in at the time of 4:25 seconds, which isn't too bad but not for my speed and agility.
My calves were pumping, blood flowing through my veins like the current of a river. Squats was ok, but the same result kept happening, the burning feeling of my legs. I did the complete full minute and therefore I was proud of myself.

Shuttle running is one of my favourite exercises, but I didn't bother to run but set myself at a manageable pace so I could keep going. It didn't matter if we came first or last because in the end the only thing is about getting yourself fitter and stronger for the next day.

A challenge I found was when we had to both step up as leaders and tell the kids to line up and also the second lap around the track. I know I can do it, and therefore  I will manage myself at a pace where nothing can stop me.

Many thanks :)

Fitness Reflection

IALT: Write about what I learnt and achieved during fitness today.

Today for fitness, it felt the same, not the teachers and the attitude of the students but the different courses we went to. First the jog around the bike track, I didn't bother to force myself to go in first place because I had drained out all my energy from playing Basketball. I was setting my pace to where I was able to manage it and stop working. Then it was time for Reverse Lunges, as I was doing this exercise I could feel the hotness and the tightness of my thighs beginning to kick in. A minute seemed too long to conquer this treacherous act of fitness, but I kept going intending to have a growth mindset no matter the cost.

I was feeling the pain in my legs as I continued to work on my thighs. At last, time was out but another fitness workout was yet to be revealed... Plank Hold, my first thought was that I couldn't do it and hold it for one minute, I tried my best but I couldn't as the pain of my abdomen started to annoy me. I often stopped for rest and I continues again, even though I didn't finish the one minute on a full set, we were out to practise develop our fitness skills. So I didn't bother if I was coming last or didn't do it at a pace others would want me to do it at, because everything that I do reflects who I really am as a person.

I couldn't Plank hold on my forearms instead I did the other way, the easier way. But I soon hope to conquer the Plank hold and move onto holding it with my forearms. Sometimes I would get confused when people did it wrong because, they didn't bother to think about the goals they set or hope to achieve! But I was only worried about myself, and what I can do to make me better.

A challenge I faced was holding the Plank position , it often made me stop to have a breather but I still had the growth mindset to carry on and never give up .I know that one day I will be better, faster and stronger.

Fitness Reflection

IALT: Write about the different types of exercises I did and what I learnt from that session.

As usual fitness was one of the things that both Rooms 9 and 10 do everyday after Morning Tea. Today's session, was both tiring and at some occasions hard. The usual job around the bike track for me would have to be the best part of fitness, as I was suppose to come in jogging but I ended up overtaking the 3 leaders. I was used to over taking others so I didn't really take it as an achievement. The only thing that struck me was when I didn't beat my time, I came in, in about 1 minute and 25 seconds trying to beat my previous record of 1 minute and 21 seconds.

Jogging around the bike track doesn't feel too long but it's hard to believe your time when you cross the finish line. The first teacher I was with was Ms Komor, we did Inchworms and the Plank Hold. I had some experience on both but didn't bother not to give it a go, others didn't seem to try which was a shame as we had been learning about fitness and why it means to us. Inch Worms were easy, but the Plank hold wasn't.

The Plank hold for me is one of the best but hard ways to develop strength in your core body. I myself, only did it for 45 seconds out of 1 minute because my abdomen was begging to tense and tight leaving me trying to gulp for air. I was relieved when it was over, but fitness wasn't. I still had to do step ups and squats. Both these are really good to develop some thigh and calf strength, if I were to pick one of these to do all day, it would have to be Inch Worms.

Due to the absence of Ms Kelly, we didn't have shuttle runs which was a bummer because running is one of my top attributes. If Ms Kelly were there, it would make the session a lot more active and I think students would also have the courage to do it because the encouragement of the other students can help them, forget their fear and just do it.

Tomorrow, is another day. For me my goal is to beat my time of 1 minute and 21 seconds. If I were to do that, my next steps in learning is to keep focused and not try to impress others if you're having to stop all the time. My other goal is to set my speed at a pace I can manage, to do the whole minute. If I were to do this, I would personally develop skills and the health I need.

A challenge I faced was when I had to hold the Plank position, it made my core body tight, tense and hard, meaning I was just getting used to all the blood rushing through my body so quickly.
I can't wait for the nest fitness session.
