Locker Key From The Titanic

WALT: Reflect on an article we have read.

For S.S.R today I have read an article about a key from the famous ship Titanic.
It's talking about a key from the Titanic being sold for NZ$144,000.
The Titanic was the largest passenger line in service at the time!
Her memory is still kept alive..

Music Reflection

WALT: Reflect on our Music session for today.

Today in Music it was different because we did our exam. Instead of having a fun game, my class decided to reject it and go straight into answering the questions! During our exam our music teacher Caleb, told us to go back into our booklet to find some answers. I did, but I didn't find anything. And our performance piece is around the corner!
I can't wait for it, but until then ...

New Leader For United Nations

WALT: Reflect on an specific article, and go in depth with out thinking.
Here is my reflection about the new leader of the United Nations. It's about Antonio Gutters being elected to become the new leader. He beat Helen Clark for the job, which is a total upset for our country, as Helen Clark is former Prime Minister!

I have decided to do some home blogging so that when I go to school I don't have to finish up any work!

Snapchat named worst app for privacy.

WALT: Reflect on an article

Here is an article about Snapchat being the worst app to protect your privacy!
After reading this article I am worried about the safety of others and my family because, some of my family members use this app for entertainment. There are many reasons why people use this app, but mostly for using the filters! There are many different filters and Snapchat update their app to make it better. So if you use this app, keep an eye out for your privacy. And if you're a person under the age of 13, be extra careful because we young people are mostly at risk.

Thanks for having the time to read my reflection!
Many thanks!

The Wild Boy

WALT: Reflect on our reading activity.

Today for Reading we read a article called "Wild Boy" it's about a man called Brando Yelavich. He attempts to be the first person to walk around New Zealand's entire coastline. Hoping to raise $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House, he would also be self-sufficient along the way: hunting, fishing, and foraging for food. On his first day he shot a black backed gull. He attempted to cook it but it tasted disgusting. Over the next six hundred days, Brando would become more skilled at cooking what he caught. He also spotted a stranded goat and shot it with his crossbow.

Now he had finished his walk and wrote a book.

I am fascinated by this article because he actually walked!

Rugby: Jordie Barrett joins brother at Hurricanes

WALT: Write a reflection about an article we have read.

Today for Reading I have finished reading a article about Jordie Barrett playing alongside his brother Beauden Barrett.

The multi-talented 19-year-old will become the third member of the Barrett family to play for the Hurricanes after his father Kevin and older brother.

"Jordie's an exciting young player with undoubted talent and a real drive to succeed and we believe the Hurricanes is the right environment for him to develop his talent.
"Like all young players starting out he still has room for development and with the right coaching structures around him at the Hurricanes I'm sure we will see him realise his full potential in the years to come.
"He's a very versatile player who is capable of playing second-five, fullback and also at first five, so he really adds some value to our squad in that respect and I'm sure he's going to make a really positive contribution." Says Hurricanes Head Coach Chris Boyd.

Overall I think that this is a very interesting article because imagining to Barrett's in one rugby team, they would be unstoppable!
I have a question... Would Jordie Barrett overcome his  brother Beauden Barrett?

I am also upset with the fact that our Kiwis lost to the Kangaroos, I really did hope that we would win!

Australia thump Kiwis

Here is my piece of writing about the Kiwi's losing to the Kangaroos. It was very sad to hear that the Kiwi's lost. But I am also angry that the Kangaroos have some very good players in their squad like.... Greg Inglis, Sam Thaiday, Billy Slater, Johnathan Thurston and many more. I hope that the Kiwi's bring their A game!

Relfection About KiwiCan!

Here is my reflection about Kiwi Can. Kiwi Can delivers strong messages to the classes in our school, I think that without Kiwi Can our school wouldn't learn life long lessons.
It was fun at Kiwi Can because we played a game, but one of our teachers Mr M wasn't there because he was in Australia. He's on his way back today!
I hope that next week he will be there.

BasketBall Reflection!

WALT: Reflect on our KiwiSport experience!
Here is my KiwiSport reflection!
Our Kiwi Sport is Basketball! We had our first session today.
I'm trying to work on my shooting and dribbling skills.
My favourite basketball team is the "Cleveland Cavs" The reason for this is because of star players, Lebron James and Kyrie Irving! The nemesis of the Cavs is the Golden State Warriors!
I hope that through out this time both my class and I can improve on our skills. It was fun today because the girl joined in! Which makes things better since we didn't have our full class!

15 minutes FREE TIME

Today I will be talking about my class’s free 15 minutes! We were meant to go down to the library but unfortunately it was closed for today. It was one of my friends birthday today… Metui!... With nothing to do, our teacher asked the class, what we wanted to do… Metui answered, and that’s when the real fun began!

We had just finished coming back from Morning Tea. I sat in my normal seat and monitored the clock, high above the classroom door. It was 11:25am. My class had been assigned a task to research some facts about the country Jamaica! Did you know that the capital and largest city in Jamaica is Kingston? I was fascinated by this fact because Kingston is my older cousin’s name. I opened up a new DLO, and started typing my facts, I typed for about 15 minutes, and within that time I began learning more and more about this country. Some of the facts, I didn’t even know! Some facts are more tricky, like… Figuring out the current population of the country!

I looked at the clock once again, 11:45am. I finished my task, blogged it and began paying attention to my classroom. Nothing but Silence. I was amazed at the volume, of course, we are meant to be quiet, but this time, it was too quiet. Only the sound of the blinds and passing vehicles could be heard from my classroom. I looked at the clock again, 11:55. I was beginning to lose patience, but I decided to look up more facts about Jamaica, which got me into wanting to find out more! “Alright guys, close you netbooks” Miss Komor, always had a light tuned voice, but not all the time. “I forgot the library was closed, so what do you guys want to do?” My class raised our hands like crazy, like a bunch of monkeys.

But only one hand shone above all ours. Metui’s! We all left the decision to Metui, he would choose what the whole class did. It took a while for him to choose, which made the class lose patience.. Then finally he said, “Miss can we go outside?” Miss Komor, agreed and soon we were outside in no time. The boys in my class played 15 minutes of rugby, it was funny because it was only my class.

Then it was time to come back to class, I didn’t want to but we HAD to…  I hope that next time we could go out again, but this time longer.

Here is my writing about our 15 minutes free time!
It was an amazing experience, and I hope we can go outside again!

Jamaica Facts!

Today for S.S.R my class had to do some research on the country Jamaica.
Did you know that 6x gold medallist Usain Bolt originates from Jamaica?
Being able to represent your country in the Olympics is an honour!
I didn't do this by myself, I had help from one of my peer's Frances!
I know that a year 7 must be able to work independently but Frances couldn't access her netbook at the time so she helped me.
Tomorrow I hope that my class could come up with a different country to research facts about.

Kiwi Can Reflection

WALT: Reflect on our Kiwi Can experience.

Today for Kiwi Can it was a bit different since it's our first day back in 2 weeks. Starting Kiwi Can we played a game, we got into 4 groups and picked a different school value! My group chose "Manaakitanga" meaning "Caring For Others" Here are a few questions I am going to answer:

What are our school values?
What do they mean?

We have 5 school values that we must keep in order to sustain a safe environment for the kids that attend our school. They are : Manaakitanga,Whanaungatanga,Tukumarie,Rangimarie and Ako. Each one represents a different value: Manaakitanga: Caring For Others. Whanaungatanga: Building Relationships. Tukumarie: Tolerance. Rangimarie: Peace and Ako: Reciprocal Learning!

I will break these up for better understanding.. Caring For Others, this is talking about caring for others when their hurt, bullied or mocked. Building Relationships, this is talking about building strong connections with those you don't know, or new people at our school. Tolerance, Tolerance is important at our school as there is a mix of different cultures, I'm a Samoan, along with 2 others in my class. So not mocking other people's culture because they're different from you. Peace, there are a lot of times when we have arguments over small things, without Peace there would be war everywhere! So keeping Peace is very important. Reciprocal Learning, you don't only have to show this value in school but outside as well! Reciprocal learning is learning from each other, so you could teach your parents how to speak English while they teach you how to speak your home language!

It looks very complex to learn, but as a student who has been coming to Tamaki Primary for 6 years, I have to learn all these values. Next year will be my last so I have to keep my grades up!

I can show these value outside of school by...

I can show Ako outside school by teaching my younger brother's some new tricks, while they do the same to me.

I can show Manaakitanga outside school by help elderly people cross the road!

What game did you play wit Mr.M when he was pointing with the spoon?

I don't really know the name of the game...

What did you enjoy most about Kiwi Can today?

The thing that I enjoyed the most was being able to observe and listen to the different things other people had to show.

What did your group share? A poem?, rap? or role play?

My group shared a role play with the class, but it wasn't appropriate for school. I wasn't the one who said it but, I was in the group so it was my problem too.

My favourite group that performed today was James's group! There group was the only one which did a play. It was all about James getting wasted, doesn't have clear vision, mistakes a man for a women and wants to flirt with her, but it goes all wrong!

Next week I hope to create a class chant and hopefully people will make more responsible choices!

Many thanks!

Magic Square (Maths Activity)

WALT: Solve different numbers and different strategies using only numbers from 1-12. Today for Maths we had an activity called "Magic Square" This activity was about adding numbers up to 24. Not every number will be used, and you can only use the number once. I completed the activity 2nd overall in my class! It doesn't matter about the speed but just how you got the answer and how did you get there. I have got a few questions for myself to answer...

How did you solve it?
I solved the task by using the numbers already given, they gave me an advantage because I instantly knew which numbers to choose. In the end I got it right!

What strategy did you use?
I used Place Value.

What did you do to check your work?
I asked if I could look at other people's work, but people who had already finished. That way I could check if it was right or wrong. But what happened if they had a mistake??? No need to worry because my teacher approved my work.

How were you responsible for you learning?
I was responsible for my learning by taking the time to think, I didn't want to talk because I knew it would hold me back from finishing my work!

Thanks for having the time to read my reflection!
I only had 3 rows (3x3) Next time I should try and use more complex ones!
*Many thanks*
