Technology Reflection

IALT: Write about my Technology reflection.

This week for Technology I worked with Kenneth , and we baked Rock Cake. Above is the photo of our finished creation. Well, I can see that it doesn't look like a cake but instead the sight of cookies, with whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top. But it didn't stop us from baking delicious nourishment. With Metui away, it felt different working with another buddy but at the same time I got to learn the strengths and weaknesses from Kenneth's ability to bake.

Anyways, the ingredients we used were:

Self Raising Flour
Sugar
Whipped Cream
Chocolate Syrup
Egg
Vanilla Essence
Milk

And the utensils we used was:

Cooling Tray
Oven Tray
Measuring Cups
Big Bowl
Plastic Scraper
Desert Spoon

I forgot to write down the Method, but at least we made something. Well I ca say that today wasn't the best of our days, with not much people paying attention to instructions and getting the texture wrong. Mrs Tuipulotu wasn't too happy about it and, she started reminding us about remembering to listen and pay attention.

A challenge I found was when I had to put the texture onto the baking tray because it spread all over the tray connecting with the others. I enjoyed working with a new peer and finding out his different cooking skills.

Maths T4W2

IALT: Write about my Maths learning for this week.

This week for Maths it was fun, to be honest. We didn't have Ms. Komor , but instead we had two questions and then we had to recall our basic facts for speed and accuracy. This is the the first question that I had to answer:

1. Zac has 8 packs of drink.
Each pack has 6 cans.
How many cans is that altogether?

The answer is 48, because 8 x 6 = 48.

2. Hanni uses 32 carrots to fill 4 bags.
How many carrots does he need to fill 12 bags?

The answer is 96, because Hanni uses 8 carrots for one bag, and if you go up to twelve bags you'll need 96 carrots to fill it up.

After answering these questions I moved onto Flashcards, I was working alongside Demetrius and George. I challenged both of them to get their memory accurate and speed. Yes, I can say I am better at them but I try not to show it because it'll make them feel stink and 'dumb' But I can see that with more practise and time they'll soon be able to beat me... Someday.

I enjoyed working with my peers because it was both funny and I got to see some things in them that I haven't seen before, like answering questions much faster then I did.

Many thanks :)

Cybersmart T4W2

IALT: Write about what I learnt during Cybersmarts for this week.

This week for Cybersmarts my class had worked on the word Netiquette. I had heard the word before but had forgotten what it meant. But luckily, our beloved Cybersmarts teacher Mrs Shearling helped my class to strengthen our knowledge of online users and how to always keep safe while using it.
The word Netiquette consists of the word 'net' and 'etiquette' which to me was very interesting.

I didn't work alone, I was accompanied by my peer Matthew. We used the website Canva where it enabled us to choose a template  and make it our own. I must say, it was pretty hard completing this because well I didn't have much time too as I was sick.  But as a year 8 student I was determined to finish my work to a high standard and inspire my other peers.

A challenge I found was writing down reasons that support my ideas. It really challenged me to think a lot and use the ideas from my partner. I enjoyed working with another class mate because discover his strengths and weaknesses.

Sargent's Movie.

IALT: Write about a movie I created about my furry brother, Sargent. Who sadly passed away 1 1/2 weeks ago.

It feels like it's been a year since Sargent, our family dog, passed away. I hadn't seen him for about 3 months, and hearing the news passed on from my other family members I was devastated about what I heard. Going over to visit his grave, I couldn't get the message that he had gone for good. He was never coming back. I couldn't do anything but cry with my relatives, in the hopes that Sargent is looking down on us, knowing that he is a special part of each and everyone of our lives.

He is a beautiful and massive Tongan beast. Living in Papakura, his street is filled with other dogs. As a male, he dislikes encounters with other male dogs attacking and protecting our family and houses. My uncle Jack and aunt Aloma, are his official owners, but I had bonded so close to him, I considered him to be my own birth brother. Although an animal, sometimes strong bonds can make you think of them as a human.

To be very honest, my and my younger cousins didn't treat him like an animal, but a true member of our family. With our hearts shattered, we managed to decorate his grave to show respect and appreciation for all he had done while on this Earth. Now that he is put to bed, I will cherish each and every moment we spent together, especially the time he bit me on the top of Mt Wellington, after being to energetic.

His time on this Earth is now finished. Our Tongan beast is resting peacefully in his Kingdom.

T4W1 Maths Activity.

IALT: Use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating on whole numbers.
Squaring.

This week my Maths group worked on squaring with different numbers. At first, I didn't quite get what squaring was about. I've heard it before, but haven't worked with it. Luckily, our group was with our teacher who helped us learn more and understand it . Every time we have a lesson with her , she asks everyone in our group about what we already know. After about 10 minutes with her we split and worked by ourselves with some questions.

Here they are:

1. √96
9.79

2.√54
7.34

3.√181
13.4

4.√48
6.92

5.√132
11.4

6.√142
11.9

7.√90
9.4

8.√112
10.5

9.√80
8.9

10.√169
8.88

11.√79
13.3

12.√179
13.2

13.√175
11.7

14.138
13

I didn't really need time to really think about these questions because I already knew how to answer them. Something challenging I found was when I first learnt about squaring numbers, and other ways to say it.

Technology Reflection

IALT: Write about what I learnt and did during Technology today.

Today we went back to Technology, our first session for Term 4 . I was really looking forward to what Mrs Tuipulotu had planned for us. After being away for 2 weeks, I think most of our class needed a reminder on the expectations in the cooking room. There is dangerous equipment, that can harm you if you don't know how to handle it in the right way. Like always, we have to get an apron, wash our hands and then get our things ready for cooking.

The food that we made today was , Pinwheel Pizza.

For the ingredients we used:

  • Onion
  • Capsicum
  • Tomato
  • Cheese
  • Tomato Pastry
  • Pizza Base
  • Pepper
  • Salami
Now for the method:

Step 1 : Lay out on the Dairy Product chopping board.
Step 2 : Paste the tomato pastry onto the pizza base.
Step 3 : Dice pepper, tomato, onion, salami and spread on top of base.
Step 4 : Top up with cheese and roll it around.
Step 5 : Bake at 180 degrees for 15 minutes.

Something challenging I found was trying not to get our food burnt in the oven. Sadly, our creation came out burnt but it still tasted delicious. Next week, I hope we can cook something else, like something that doesn't involve rolling it up.
