Kiwi Sport Reflection

IALT:  Write about what I learnt during Kiwi Sport.

So today for Kiwi Sport we had Jasmin back after she had been absent for the past two weeks. As usual we went over what we had learnt from past session and added on to it to increase our learning about Hip Hop. To be honest, I didn't really want to go down to the hall because I knew we were going to work on our group Choreography , and I don't like dancing... At all. But as a school leader I should always have the courage to stand up and always try something new.

In my group, we consist of two boys and a girl . Me , Tevita and Monita. This week, was a new and fresh start. And we forgot our moves we had come up with two weeks before. So we intended to try and come up with new moves in about the time of 10 minutes. Trying to think of some moves I was stuck because I didn't know what to say, or come up with. Monita wasn't participating which made things harder. Tevita was trying and I am grateful for that.

I was getting a little bit frustrated but I just kept my head held up high and I didn't really care if we didn't come up with something to show the class. I was embarrassed when I got on the stage because we didn't have anything to show, but I was determined to come up with a group dance and showcase it to our class.

Something I found challenging was when I had to think of some moves for our dance, because I didn't know what to think about. My next steps in learning is to use my time wisely and include my group when I am going over something, or the other way around.

Kiwi Sport Reflection

IALT: Write about what I learnt during Kiwisport.

For Kiwisport this week, my class did a recap on what we've learnt so far, everyone contributed in our class discussion was great. But the only thing that I didn't like was that it felt like we weren't getting anywhere. I don't mean to be rude and judging but I mean, if we go over what we've already learnt once, why should we keep doing it? Probably because Jasmin just wants to refresh our memory on past things we've learnt.

Anyways, the only thing that I liked during Kiwi Sport was when we got into our groups and came up with our own dance. My group consisted of three people, Me, Tevita and Monita. As a leader, I chose to be a leader in our group and got my peers back on task when they were focused on something else. We only had 15 minutes, and it seemed we weren't getting anywhere so I barked at my team to step up and starting working together.

We came up with moves, which was fantastic . But in the end we didn't get to showcase what we came up with, with our class because we didn't get chosen. I was happy because I didn't really want to show our dance moves, as I hate dancing but I wanted to show others that you should always try something new, because you never know, you might end up liking it and turning it into one of your hobbies.

A challenge I faced was coming up with the dance moves because I didn't know what to add, and if my team would appreciate it.  I enjoyed working together with my team because we were all showing the school value Whanaungatanga.

KiwiSport Reflection

IALT: Write about the origin of Hip Hop and what I learnt during this Kiwi Sport session.

Hip Hop , this word is easy said, but harder to explain. In this week's session with Jasmin, our Kiwi Sport instructor she taught us 2 new dance moves. Janet Jackson and the Alf. These two dance moves challenged me to move my body more, increasing my stamina and flexibility. Last week we learnt the Smurf and James Brown, these moves didn't really challenge me because it didn't involve too much body movement, which was good because I don't really like dancing.

Do you know the four elements that make up Hip Hop? Art, DJing, MCing and Breakdancing. Every element is like the Hauora House, without one the rest fall. Not making a strong household, to me I was astonished at the history of Hip Hop because it wasn't made in the country I live in and it was created back in the 1970's which was 44 years ago! For something I know little about, I thought it would've been made way back, like in the 1930's or 20's.

African Americans, and Latinos came up with Hip Hop after they weren't getting treated the same way as others, they were being Repressed. So they decided to take a stand and call for ban, coming up with the idea of dancing to express how they really feel about the American Government. I find this really unique, because dancing is an absolute superb way of expressing your feelings.

This week's session was amazing because I learnt new dance moves, along with my peers. Something challenging I found was trying to do the Janet Jackson move because it challenged me to move my body a lot! I enjoyed the Freestyle Circle because everyone got to do a move in front of the whole class.

Kiwi Sport Reflection

IALT: Talk about what I learnt during KiwiSport.

This term for Kiwisport, well actually I don't even know if what we are learning is a sport, but anyways we are doing Hip Hop. I know right? Is Hip Hop a sport? That's what I thought but I didn't bother to ask myself so many questions because it's worth a try doing something you have never done before. At first I thought it was going to be boring because I don't like dancing but when we got there I actually enjoyed it.

We learnt the four elements that make up Hip Hop, which is DJing, MCing, Breakdancing and Graffiti. I didn't quite know what these things meant but more deeper into the lesson I learnt some moves, called the Smurf, and James Brown. I didn't know who James Brown was but the move we did was actually fun and challenging at the same time.

Overall I thought that this Hip Hop session was something I really enjoyed, even though I don't like to dance. But something challenging I found was doing the James Brown walk because I didn't quite get it, but now I do and I am really happy. Something I enjoyed was dancing because I felt it and got into it.
