Technology Reflection

I am learning to write a reflection about my Technology experience and what I did during the two periods.

Today for Technology it was a real relief for me because I had the chance to finally show Mr Grundy what I had completed in order for me to start designing my design. As I walked through the doors of Mr Grundy's workshop all the papers were waiting on a desk waiting for someone to bring them in. Two volunteers handed out the papers and soon everyone was working hard, like tiny bullet ants carrying something over 50 times their own weight.

I didn't take my Technology Book instead I took something more effective and efficient, a Chromebook. But the downfall of this decision was that all my reasons and sketches that I drew were in my Technology book and without it I had no proof to show that I finished and was ready to move onto the next stage of the process.

Instead of sitting there looking lost I kindly asked one of my peers, Constance, if I could borrow her book in order for to re-draw my design and show Mr Grundy, and be approved of. I didn't take to look but in the end Mr Grundy approved it and I was on the stage where I had to get the exact measurements and make sure they were a certain length long, as the wood was only 320 mm long.

I chose to create a chopper and create it for my younger brother who loves things that are good to play with. There I was with a brand new piece of paper, a pencil and a block of wood. I was only one in a few people that had been up to to this stage but Rosemary, was way ahead in front of everyone cutting out her pieces already.

It didn't bother me but I got my measurements right and was waiting for my turn to show Mr Grundy, other people asked me for help and I gave them some advice on how things worked.

"RRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG" I heard the faint voice of the bell signalling the end of Period 2, the last period, I was shocked, Mr Grundy didn't call out my name but next week I would get a chance and hopefully catch up to Rosemary and ask her what kind of challenge she faced while measuring, answering, drawing and cutting her design.

This week's Technology session was filled with relief and friendship. I didn't quite get the chance to show Mr Grundy my finished sketch but I had the chance to help me peers who didn't know what to do. This session had a little bit of a connection with this weeks Kiwi Can session as well. My peers asked me questions because they were unsure on what to do, and the question in Kiwi Can this week was " How is asking questions important" and today it really came into action!
I enjoyed finally moving on from my 9-10 workable ideas to finally being a step close to starting on my design. A challenge I faced was not being able to get my piece of art approved of my Mr Grundy but next week I will finally have that opportunity.

I can't wait for next week's session and what mysterious it will hold!

Please leave a comment on my work :)

Many thanks :)

Technology Reflection

I am learning to write about my Technology session I participated in today.

Today we went to Tamaki College for our 2nd Technology session. The difference between last week's session and today's session is that the weather today is raining meaning the smell of dampness filled the bus. Inside the bus it smelt like wet dogs, well that's what I thought I smelt but it could've been something else. No Offense to my peers. The routine from here to Tamaki College only takes about 4 minutes, I was relieved when the bus finally pulled up at the gates of Tamaki College as I stepped out onto the wet concrete people started kicking the puddles.

I wasn't too happy with that but they were boys, and boys are boys. My group walked to Mr Grundy's class where he was waiting for us, that was unusual because most times he walks with us to his class but the rain had stopped him from doing that. The weather outside was cold, so I was very glad when I stepped inside the classroom where no rain could reach me. I walked in the class and noticed other kids going up to get their piece of paper so I followed them, Mr Grundy said last week that we had to have 15 designs that could work and be made but today he cut it down to 9 or 10.

For me I thought that thinking about the designs was really hard because I didn't want to make something that was already made. So I took a walk around the class to get some ideas, some of them were simple like a box, car and a truck but I saw a design called a Jewelry Tree I thought that was very creative but I wasn't a girl so I didn't want to do it. This week I was hoping that we could start creating something, but it turned out to be the opposite! We were still coming up with designs and I thought it was boring.

After that Mr Grundy said "Front and Centre" meaning we all had to surround a table, I was trying to pick something off Metui's pants but Mr Grundy thought we were playing and me and him was sent outside. When me and Metui was waiting outside some of the kids were getting cheeky from inside. They thought they were funny but actually they weren't. It had been about 5 minutes and me and Metui were still waiting outside, then Mr Grundy arrived he didn't look to mad but he said we've already spent enough time mucking around and it was time to get some work done.

I had finished my work and put my name on the board, I was happy to finally realise that my time had come but then it turned around! Mr Grundy has to speak to some other people who were wasting time and he forgot all about checking my work. I was waiting for him to finish and when he did he didn't bother coming back. "Is that how it is now" I thought. But I didn't really care because time was almost up. But before he left he gave us a talk about 'Finishing work and using time wisely'

Next week I hope that I can get my work CHECKED and then be able to start sketching my design. My next steps in learning is to write a reflection, not a recount. I think it's because I get too carried away with my experience but I want to just stick with some simple but in depth thinking. A challenge I found during this session was not being able to get my work checked and approved.

First Technology Reflection for 2017!

WALT: Reflect on our first session at Technology.

I am back! Here is my first post for 2017 and it's about Technology.
I was really pleased to be in Mr Grundy's class because I wanted to find out what we're doing for this term. It turned out to be wood work and creating things out of wood. I'm looking forward to what Mr Grundy has in plan for next week.

But until then please leave a comment and thank you for having the time to read my reflection!

Many thanks,

Technology Mr Grundy

Today at Tech we didn't create anything but learnt about 4 strict rules, the different material and how to act in a workshop. Of course, it's not a real workshop, but Mr Grundy calls his class a workshop. When we first walking in it smelt like wood, metal and other things. We found a spot, I was only surrounded with one boy, who was Metui. Metui was my previous buddy in our previous tech group, Cooking.  We will be making pendants. The 4 strict rules were.

1. No Fiddling
2. Stools have 4 legs for a reason
3. Go before you come
4. Don't cross the yellow line

We didn't make anything today but next week we will hopefully make something.

Many thanks!
