Weekend Reflection!

I am learning to reflect on what I did during the weekends.

This weekend was just the same as any other weekend, me and my brother going over to grandad's house.

FRIDAY!

After school on Friday I walked home, it was hot and humid and my energy was drained quickly from the heat rays from the sun. "Why now?, why is it hot now?" I asked the question in my head, I don't like walking when the sun is out with nothing to cover it, but I wanted to get home ASAP so I begged my legs to keep going as I was almost home. I get home in like 45 minutes but when the sun is out I take an 1 hour to get home because my energy is drained out quickly, it felt like someone was draining my energy out of my like I was a cloth.

"Almost home, Finally" I thought to myself, just the thought of being in the sun longer made me eager to get home and have a nice cool shower. I turned the doorknob of my front door and walked up the stairs dropping my bag on the way up. My brothers were listening to Music in the room while I just grabbed my towel and hooped straight into the shower, nothing holding me back.

I stayed in the shower for about 15 minutes when I decided to let another person have a shower, like my brother. But then I remembered that my brothers had practice for church, which meant they had to go to church and then come back to go. I didn't care too much, because we must always remember the lord and trust in him with all thy heart. I looked at the time 5:45pm, my brothers were already dressed and ready to go to church while I stayed home and did some chores.

Time went by fast and soon my brothers came back, he packed some clothes and there we were off on our way to grandad's. We got dropped off and when we got there it looked as if no one was there because most of the cars were gone, but I knew that someone was in the front house. I put my clothes in the room and went up to say "Hi" to my cousins and aunt.

Then I went to the back house to set up me and my brothers bed, it's not too much work but soon I was laying down watching replays of NBA games. The first match that was on was against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder, I was hoping that the Cavs would win it was a close game but in the end, OKC was too strong for CLE. I was sad with the loss of the Cavs but I still knew that their the defending champions of the NBA title. It was 10:30pm, it was getting late and I was starting to fall asleep.

SATURDAY

I woke up the next morning, the T.V was off and my brother was still fast asleep so I turned on the T.V and watched Transformers on channel 33. The movie is about the heroic Autobots trying to destroy a cube that holds the power of transforming human technology into robots from the Decepticons. Soon Megatron and Optimus Prime go one on one , both are evenly matched but then Sam (Who is the owner of Bumblebee) slides in between the match and put's the cube near the heart of Megatron, with the power of the cube being so impressive Megatron wasn't strong enough to hold that power and he soon died.

I didn't know how long I was watching T.V for but then my cousins came rushing down telling me and my brother to get dressed for the pools. I was excited because it was hot, and at times boring. We left home at 12:00pm and arrived back at home at 5:00pm, whenever we come home from the pools I only think of sleep and getting enough rest for church the next day. I went to sleep as soon as we arrived at home, my brain was too tired to think or do anything.

Sunday

I woke up early Sunday morning, it was about 6:45am so I turned the T.V on again. Our church started at 1:00pm and that meant that it was a long way until church started. But soon we said our goodbyes and then my aunt dropped us off home. We got home at 11:00pm, I ironed my church clothes and put them on, to me I looked like one of those models... Just Kidding... But I did look flash. Soon my papa said it was time to go and we were at church in no time, as a 12 year old boy I am now a member of the Youth, meaning I serve sacrament to the church. When I first joined Youth, I was lucky to have already learnt how to serve because I watch and memorise those who were already in it.

We spend 1 hour in the Sacrament Meeting and then depart off to our Sunday school classes. In church we learnt about God and the God Heads. The God Heads are, The Holy Spirit, Jesus and Heavenly Father. We spend 1 hour in class and then split into another different class. The young men and young woman are separated so one of the priests, decided we would take our chair and sit outside because it was hot. Outside our Bishop and leaders joined us and we talked about the sacred duties that young men hold. We didn't take too long outside because it was almost time to go home. As a young man, I hold the Aaronic Priesthood and I am the president of the Deacons (12 to 13 year olds) and I must clean the chapel and ensure everything is locked as it is one of my duties.

After everything was locked everyone went home, it was 4:00pm and you do get tired in the afternoons so I decided to take a nap, and I knew I would wake up the next morning for school.

Here is my reflection about my weekend.
My weekend was full of fun and laughter, I get to spend time with my family and create memories. Something I enjoyed during my weekend was being able to watch T.V for certain amounts of time without getting interrupted, a challenge I found during my weekend was going to sleep too early. But next week I hope I can be more active when I'm with my family members.

Humid Heat Wave Hit's Australia!

I am learning to write about a heat wave hitting Australia.

A humid heatwave has hit New South Wales making it the hottest February day on record.
Beaches located in the NSW region were filled with people within the seconds. But out west, things were much worse. With no sea breeze the temperatures hit 47 Degrees Celsius in some areas, that made the town of Ivanhoe the hottest place on the planet on Saturday!
Image result for australia
A resident form one of the town's commented "It’s very hot, so it’s a bit like you’ve just opened the oven door. When you’re in the sun it feels like the sun is burning you pretty much straight away,” Almost 40 people at the most were hospitalised with heat stroke, while eight children and a dozen pets were rescued from locked cars. But the biggest concern from local fire stations are ... FIRES. With the heat being so dramatically high the risk of fires are common while the Australian Energy Market Operator has warned of possible power shortages due to increased demand.

What do I think about this article?...

For starters,  I always knew Australia was one of the hottest places on the planet now after reading this article I have some evidence to prove it. But I never thought that the temperature would reach that high, it seems like something out of the blue. If I lived in Australia I would be out of the house and in the cool waters of the beach. Imagine the temperature of New Zealand being that high, many people would be sick and other people would be filling up the beaches.

Here is my S.S.R reflection.
Something that I enjoyed during this task was finding out that Australia was the hottest place on the planet on Saturday, and being able to give my thoughts about this article. To be very honest I don't know a challenge that I faced during this task, my next steps for learning is to find out more about articles if it doesn't give enough information.

Cybersmarts!

WALA: Things that we can keep personal and things we can share with the world.

Today we did Cybersmarts. Our teacher wrote the word "Cybersmarts" on the board and everyone participated in the group discussion by giving an answer. The whole board was filled with answers, and when we looked at it, it looked like a tornado had attacked the board. The board looked like a rainbow with all it's different colours. We then did an activity where we had to know the difference between things we post online and things we should keep private. Listed down below is the kind of things that I should keep private and share for the whole world to see.

Last year Mrs Manuyag was our Cybersmarts teacher, she taught me a lot that is why I like to do Cybersmarts at times. For me if you go over one thing too many times it gets boring and I don't feel like doing the task. This task, I've already did it before, but instead of my calling out all the answers I decided to let those who didn't know do the work because if I keep telling them the answers, they won't have the chance to shine and give ideas on what they think Cybersmarts is.

For me I think the top things you should keep private is your; Full name, Home Address, Email Address, Date of Birth, Home or Mobile phone number and your password. I think this because if you share these out to the world someone might come to your address unexpectedly, they might call your home number and spam you, and they might hack into your account sending rude messages to people, and then people might accuse you of something you didn't commit.

Something that I enjoyed during this part of the day was being able to see the other kind of ideas coming from different students in the room, sometimes I like to do messy work just for fun and today the board was filled with great answers.
A challenge that I found during this task was coming up with more ideas for things that you should keep private. My next steps in learning is to think more critically and sometimes think outside of the 'box'.

Thanks for having the time to read my Cybersmart reflection.

Kiwi Sport (Badminton)

I am learning to write about our first Kiwi Sport session this year.

This morning our class went down to our school hall for our first Kiwi Sport session. I was looking forward to it because last week we missed out due to Waitangi day. The sport we played was Badminton, I reckoned I was a pro at it because we had Badminton last year and I still remembered the coaches names, and how to hold the racket. This year is different because there was only one coach and his name is Ben, he was here last year with his companion Kevin but Kevin wasn't here.

For Badminton we used a racket and a shuttle. You use the racket to hit the shuttle in the air, there are a few simple rules that come with these pieces of equipment, you are not allowed to hit the racket towards a wall, friend, or the floor as it can damage it. A rule for the shuttle is that you're not allowed to aim the shuttle at anyone because it can cause some serious injury if it comes in contact with your eyes.

There are 2 different kind of grips to hold the racket, one forehand and one backhand. For me I think that the forehand grip is easier for me because I can have control of the racket and I hit the shuttle accurately. When using both grips you can get mixed up so an easy way to remember both grips is that when you use forehand you hold the racket as if you are holding a pan and the backhand is holding the racket like you are shaking someone's hand.

It might seem like a lot of work but once you get into the habit of using bother grips you can soon teach someone else who is having trouble.

My next learning steps for me is to remember the difference between both grips and to have control when hitting the shuttle. On T.V Badminton doesn't look entertaining but once you play it feels exhausting and fun! My partner for this week was Siale, next week I hope I can teach him to take somethings seriously but at the same time, we're having fun.

Thanks for having the time to read my reflection about Kiwi Sport.
I am looking forward to next week and hope to learn some more new tricks.

Here is my reflection about our first Kiwisport session.
It wad fun and next week I hope to have learnt some more new tricks.
Something that I enjoyed during this week's session was being able to challenge my friends to see who is better. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. A challenge that I found during this session was holding the racket in both grips, sometimes I get mixed up but in the end I know I will get there.

National Party Unveils New Logo

I am learning to about the National party and their new logo!

The National Party has released it's new logo in preparation for this year's general election. Now that the National party have a new leader, Bill English, he has come up with the new design for his party now that John Key has resigned from his position as PM and National party leader.

Image result for Bill english

The new design has the letter 'N' in the middle with different shades of blue in the background. The party's social media and website have switched over to a design. The new logo is a marked departure from the previous logo.

Which design do I like more than the other?

This is based on my own opinion but I think that the old design is better then the new one, I think this because the old design had the national colours of the New Zealand flag while the new design just has 2 colors, Blue and White. I didn't think that National had to change their design but it's not up to me it's up to Bill English now that former PM John Key resigned.

I don't see a point of changing the logo for the party because National is National and nothing can change that. But the decision isn't mine so I have nothing to worry about.

Here is my reflection about the release of the new logo of the National party.
Bill English has come up with a new logo for the National party, I didn't think he should've changed it because I don't see a point.
Something I found challenging during this task was coming up with more ideas because the article wasn't that long. But something that I enjoyed during this task was being able to give my opinion on this decision. My next steps in learning is to pick an article that give in depth information not just 1 or 2 paragraphs.

Thanks for having the time to read my reflection!
Many thanks!

Student Council Team For 2017!

I am learning to write about why I am applying for the Student Council Team this year.

Last week we were told to apply for the Student Council Team for this year, of course I wanted to join the team because I want to show my full potential here at Tamaki Primary before I leave. This year seems different because most of the leaders last year have already departed to college leaving the Year 8's this year with a lot on our shoulders. Last year I had the privilege of being in the leader team because I showed what I can do to help the school become a better and safer enviroment.

I didn't join the team when the others did because I wasn't sticking to the right path and I was getting dragged away by negative choices. But now a year later, I have come back fresh and eager to learn and graduate as a proud Tamaki student. As I was filling out my application I was stuck halfway through because I didn't want to repeat what I said last year, this year.

As I clicked "Enter" I sent my applications to the teachers that are responsible for choosing the team, there was a thought flowing in my head and that thought was, only 10 leaders were to be chosen and what if I didn't make the team? What if my application wasn't good enough?

Last year one of my goals was to make the team and it happened, but this year will it be the same? I better not give my hopes up to early and wait for the answers. Before I leave Tamaki I want to leave with my head held up high and a badge with the lettering 'Student Council' I want to show the school what I can really do and that I deserve a place on the Student Council Team for 2017!

Here is my writing about why I want to become a Student Leader for this year!
Something I enjoyed about applying for the team was that I had support from my peers and they encouraged me to do the best I can do, something I found challenging was the thoughts and the ideas I had to put in, I struggled at times but in the end I got the job done.

Many thanks.

Former All Black Sione Lauaki Has Passed Away

I am learning to reflect on an article about former AB player Sione Lauaki's death.

Sione Lauaki played 17 tests for the All Blacks and he was an enormously destructive forward, but he has passed away from suffering kidney failure. He attended Kelston Boys High and from there on he played for the New Zealand Colts, creating his Auckland debut in 2002. His commitment and fitness was doubted early, he then made his debut for the Chiefs in 2004, and made hit test debut against Fiji at Albany in 2005.

He was also apart of the All Blacks squad that contested the 2007 World Cup, he played against Italy, Portugal, Scotland and Romania in pool games but he was then suspended for two games after high tackling a player in the Romanian team. He played in France, but struck major health problems and was reported to be living in Rarotonga.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are dedicating the rest of their Brisbane Global Rugby Tens campaign to the memory of Lauaki. Laukai was a 70-cap stalwart for the Chiefs in Super Rugby. Liam Messam who is the Chiefs captain has been given permission to fly home immediately after their quarter final games against the Queensland Reds on Sunday. "There's a number of guys who played a lot of footy with Wax," Chiefs coach Dave Rennie said.
"Liam Messam, in particular, is a great mate of his so it's been a pretty upsetting morning.

What do I think of this article?
Well to be honest I never really knew that Sione played for the Chiefs, and I've been watching the Chiefs play for a while now. But I think that after reading this article it seems that I have learnt a lot about him. Something I enjoyed about this article is that many other footy stars are paying tribute to his death by posting up statuses on Twitter and dedicating their love for Sione. Something that I found challenging was just picking out some key facts to create my reflection to share for the world.

Sad to hear the passing of @SioneLauaki. Love and prayers to the family.🙏

Damn. It's a sad day today, rest easy dox @SioneLauaki 💔
