Maths T3W1

IALT: Talk about what I learnt and did for Maths this week.

  1. It costs of $327.55 for Tom’s ski team to take part in a competition. To find out how much it costs for each of the four team members to compete Tom writes 4 x ? = 327.55
How could Tom write this as a division problem?
Tom uses his calculator and get’s the answer 81.8875
What would be a sensible answer for him to write down?
Discuss this with a classmate.

Answer: 327.55 / 4 = 81.8875

B. Rewrite each equation given in red as ? =
Work out the answer. Only use a calculator if you need to. Round your answers sensibly. The first one has been answered for you.

2. During the cricket season Jeetan scored 936 runs in 17 innings. What was his batting average? 936 / 17 = 55

3. Janus had 4.56 kg of jam. He put equal amounts into 11 jars. How much jam was in each jar? 50.16 / 4.56 = 11

4. Rangi paid $26.6 for some beef fillet, which cost $18.79 per kg. How many kilograms did he buy? 26.6 / 18.79 = 1.41

5. Todd paid $19.33 for 4.85 kg of semi-dried tomatoes for a party. How much were they per kilogram? 4.845 hub / 19.33 = 3.98

6. Malaki cut 134.89 m of fishing line into pieces 22.5 metres long. How many pieces did he get?   134.89 / 22.5 = 5.99

7. Sunee is going to Thailand for a holiday. She changes NZ$ into Thai Bhat and gets 18 Baht for every NZ$1. She buys these gifts. How much would they cost in NZ$?
600 / 18 = 33.3 , 1250 / 18 =  69.4 , 1780 / 18 = 98.8

8. Neptune orbits the sun about 6.07 times during a millennium. About how long in Earth years does it take Neptune to orbit the sun once?
1000 / 6.07 = 164.74

9. The circumference of the outer rim of the London Eye is 472.8 metres. The wheel travels at 0.26 m per second. How long does it take to make one complete revolution?  1818.46 x 0.26 = 472.8

10.  Sandi and her family used 126.57 U.S. gallons of petrol on a touring holiday in America. Sandi found out that there are 3.785 litres in one U.S. gallon. How many litres of petrol did the family use for their holiday?
33.43 x 3.785 = 126.53

Here is my Maths work for this week, it looks like a little much but only because I chose to do it on a Document instead of a Google Drawing. Anyways, for this week's Maths task I completed it with Siale, but then halfway through we merged together with Metui, Sifa and Aumau, all of us in which didn't quite understand the question properly.

So instead of sitting there and doing nothing and wasting valuable time we chose to ask the teacher together and we figured out the answer, and a better understanding. We were working on rounding the numbers to the nearest ten and using division strategies to complete the questions. It was harder than it looked, but in the end we completed the task as a team.

Something I found challenging was not understanding the question properly, because I didn't know what it meant or what it told me to do.
I can't wait for next weeks Maths tasks because I think I'm getting into the habit of working on Maths.

Feel free to leave a comment.
Many thanks :)
