IALA: The New Zealand All Blacks beating the British and Irish Lions on home soil.
For me last night was one of those nights where something amazing and rare can happen. Not only was it a night where a lot of rugby games were on but, the All Blacks managed to win the first match of the series against the Lions. The first points were scored by the All Blacks, with Hooker Cody Taylor in the right wing, where Israel Dagg passed a difficult ball and somehow Taylor managed to control the ball and dive from the corner.
Once the All Blacks scored that try, I knew that nothing would be in their way of beating the Lions. Then the Lions scored a try just before the Halftime, Liam Williams caught a high ball, and then side stepped Kieran Read , before twisting out of the tackles from Aaron Cruden and Sonny Bill Williams. Liam Williams needed some work to do with getting rid of Anton Lienart Brown, and Beaduen Barrett along with Israel Dagg.
He offloaded to the left winger who then passed it to Ben Te'o who was then cut down short from Beaden Barrett, all seemed lost for the Lions until Sean O Brien went crashing over the line. At that moment I knew the Lions had more tricks up their sleeves and weren't ready to face another loss in their tour. After Half time, the two teams went back out on the field, with both Lions and All Blacks fans filling the park with screams and shouts. Sadly, for the All Blacks they lost two key players, Ryan Crotty pulled his hamstring and Ben Smith tested positive for concussion. It was a sad loss for both the team and players, if they lost one more player the only remaining back would be TJ Perenara.
While Julian Savea wasn't playing on the night, Rieko Ione who played on the left wing engaged on a high ball, and somehow managed to regain possession and sprinted for the corner beating the first five eighth and full back. At that very moment I had nothing to worry about because the All Blacks would've pulled this win of, a piece of cake.
The All Black forward did some hard runs, Brodie Retallick, Kieran Read and Cody Taylor to me would've been the best forwards, charging at the defensive line sometimes managing to get some line breaks out of it. But if I were to choose man of the match, it would be Brodie Retallick, the reason for this is because he got two penalties from the ruck, and did some pretty massive hits.
The best backs, would've been Rieko Ione, Beauden Barret and Israel Dagg, all who have the ability to catch high balls while in mid air. I am glad the All Balcks won, but I have a feeling the Lions are just getting started. The next team to face the Lions are the Wellington Hurricanes, I believe in the Hurricans and I know they will represent their home turf proudly.
