The world's ugliest dog!

IALA: A Neapolitan mastiff being named the World's Ugliest Dog.

A gentle giant dog going by the name of Martha was yesterday named the world's ugliest dog for the 29th annual Dog Contest. The Neapolitan mastiff was the favourite of the Northern California crowd from the start. She seemed to play up the crowd, often laying down on the stage drooping her face the floor. As the winning dog she went away with $1500 , a flashy trophy and a trip to New York for media appearances. Sadly her past isn't as good as her presence, she was rescued nearly blind but after several surgeries she has full possession of her sight and can now be back to her normal life according to her handler Shirley Zindler.

Amazingly, she beat 13 other dogs for 1st place. Moe, a 16-year-old Brussels Griffin-pug mix who was the oldest in the competition, came in second. While Chase, a 14 year old Chinese Crested-Harke mix, came in third. The contestants were judged on first impressions, unusual attributes, personality and audience reaction.

Former champions include SweePee Rambo, a blind Chinese-cresed beast, and Quasi Modo, who spinal birth defect causes her to be mistaken for a hyena or Tasmanian Devil. As unkind as the competition sounds the fair's  website points out that it does have an ethical function.

What do I think about this article?

Well from my family, my uncles love dogs and therefor have them as pets. One of my uncles Jack, who is the eldest of five has a American Bull Mastiff named Sergeant similar to Martha but his skin isn't as droopy. These two different breeds of dogs are related to each other, sometimes my uncle says that Sergeant is lucky to be a different breed from the Neapolitan.

A challenge I came across was when I had to find out another website because Kiwi Kids News didn't provide enough information for me to be specific about this article.

What do you think?

Feel free to leave a comment.
Many thanks :)
