IALA: Waikowhai Primary meeting the All Blacks squad.
I searched up 'Waikowhai Primary' to find some pictures for my blog post when I stumbled across this photo:
All Black captain Kieran Read! It was a few years ago but it still counted. He was with a few students from Waikowhai Primary! I was surprised because I was commenting on their blogs and didn't know that they had a tour around Eden Park along with getting the autographs from very famous All Blacks like Dan Carter, Kevin Mealamu, Owen Franks, Steven Luatua, Liam Messem, Conrad Smith and Charles Piutau.
The class and its teacher Shiralee Sands won the chance to rub shoulders with the team at its final training run before Saturday's epic clash with South Africa.
They also won a tour of Eden Park, including the changing rooms and press box.
Waikowhai administrator Julie Worthington put up a compelling case for Shiralee and her class.
"There is a high ratio of boys to girls in this class and a lot of the boys come from backgrounds where the father is not present.
"Shiralee has ensured that these children have opportunities to play a multitude of sports during the year and spends a lot of her time outside school supporting them in their sports."
For me this is a very sad thing to hear, because the dads of those who play sports aren't there to support and encourage them to do better. But if you put your mind into it and keep your head in the game, you can achieve anything as long as you have a growth mindset and a heart willing to do it.
Feel free to leave a comment.
Many thanks :P
